For people that are bothered about the C1/C2 thing I'll post in this thread because you might have missed my post helping another user with a build.

The board I bought from Amazon 2-3 weeks ago was manufactured in July, so it will be C1. The serial number is on the sticker on the outside of the box though, so that will make checking it easier if you want to try to do that.

Thanks vegaman.

According to SM:

The board serial number has year and month manufactured information after
first two letters.

For example, ZM 137S99999

That means board has been manufactured on July 2013.

If you get a board for September or later, then it should be using C2 chipset.

So, i did replacement + installed fresh FreeNAS 9.1.1
- I have also C1, but i don't care about USB3 -> disabled in BIOS
- BIOS updated to R 1.10 (19.7.2013)
- LSI flashed into IT mode
- ZPOOL autoimported without issues, BUT i am missing serial number for one disk o_O
74np.png

da0 - da5 ... all of them are same WD green model, same size, in one RAIDZ2 pool, all of them connected into LSI controller. da0 is plugged into port0, da1 into port1, ... etc
ada0 ... just UFS disk, plugged into standard SATAIII port.

Any clue why i am missing one serial?

No. It has onboard VGA chip from AST. No problem.
SM does not recommend the E3-12x5's with integrated GPU on X9SCM (and others?).

WHAT!? So you can only do it locally? Could it be that its a protection mechanism?

I haven't flashed my BIOS for my X9SCM-F only because it hasn't been updated since I got my board, but I just upgraded my IPMI from 1.83 to 2.38 last week locally.

Yes. You can upgrade the IPMI FW remotely but if you go into the BIOS update part it wan't a product key.
So i will have to boot on a DOS boot thingy and run the update file from a USB stick... it's like... Win98 times again. A bit dissapointing.

Also a bit strange... Newest IPMI FW on their website is 1.07, while my board wich is produced in june 2013 has version 1.10.

I guess though as a workaround you could use IPMI to boot into DOS and update from there?
Bit of a hassle but at least you wouldn't have to do it locally.

Sure... but needing to boot into DOS from CD/Floppy for a BIOS update is ...well....old school.

I love IPMI, but Supermicro's IPMI software is crap IMO. I haven't gotten it to run at all anywhere. I wanted an icon on my desktop I could double click to instantly remote desktop to it, but their software won't run when I try to run it and I've only ever been able to get IPMI to work by going to the IPMI website and logging in, then clicking the appropriate menus :(

I also noticed the IPMI FW version difference, my board also shows it has version 1.10.
