Wow, that one cost me about 300usd. if that one doesn't work i have to spend another 400usd ... i want to spend money wisely. maybe i've to start a hunt for used ups on the net and hopefully get a decent one .

And that's why we always recommend you look up models that are compatible with FreeBSD and go from there. Trying to go the other way around makes for... a bad day.

Remind me not to buy an UPS over there.

I look up but see no name of the provider (Which is Santak) but i think i will give it a try cause this model have an usb connection. Hopefully i will work
I believe Santak are re-brands. Just not sure of what. If you can't figure it out you can always ask on the nut mailing list.

I bought Santak Blazer 600E (which is a brand of EATON !), at first it worked. i tried to pull the power cord and it shut down automatically after 3 sec (test purpose). But the next day, it keep saying this:

Because i can't find Santak on the list so i pick up an EATON model that use the same driver (blazer_usb) and it worked for the first time but now i think it doesn't work anymore. and by the way i typed in the port "auto" instead of pick one from it. How can i fix this situation?

My guess is that if it "turned off" 3 seconds later and didn't "begin the shutdown" that it didn't work properly.

so we just ignore the report from the system? is that so?

Nope. I'm simply interpreting your answer. "shutdown" and "turn off" is different. And no matter how I directly interpret your answer of "turn off", either the UPS turned itself off(which is the new norm these days as a friend has learned if you have no device attached to its USB/Serial port.. f&(*%$ APC/Cyberpower) or the machine turned off.

A shutdown of FreeNAS takes more than 3 seconds.

So either your terminology is not 100% accurate(which it needs to be because the difference between "shutdown" and "turned off" are worlds different) or you actually have a different problem than you think.

So which is it? Is it both? I don't know, but you need to provide more information....

Not trying to fight with you, just trying to get answers and proper choice of words is critical.

ah thanks for that. 3 sec mean, after the power shut down, the FreeNAS will waith 3sec and then shut itself down. i didn't the shut down process take 3sec it's a little bit longer i know.

3 is the number i put on "SHUTDOWN TIMER". Is this correct or i totally got i wrong?

Try to replace the "auto" port with the proper port used by the UPS. Run usbconfig to find the correct port and then select it from the dropdown.

My best guess is /dev/ugen1.3. It seems that the UPS is actually a serial port one with an Serial <-> USB converter bolted on top of it.

I think there's something wrong with your UPS config. Please post output of cat /etc/local/nut/ups.conf
