VMworld 2017 Wrap Up Post

Las Vegas was hot, and it wasn’t just the desert. VMworld was smoking! Last week, 25,000 IT professionals descended upon Las Vegas, a city known for its neon light architecture, and discussed a different type of architecture at VMworld — one that is virtualized. The iXsystems devils were busy at Booth #1224 sharing our expertise on how to protect VMs and ensure fast and reliable access to data.

The energy in the solutions exchange was also high, with hundreds of vendors including iXsystems demonstrating their solutions to thousands of IT professionals. The iXsystems Team demonstrated the new TrueNAS X10, an enterprise-grade flash-assisted hybrid storage array that is ideal for protecting VMs, and the TrueNAS Z50, an all-flash model that is ideal for virtualization.
We had a slot machine where you could try your luck to win a USB stick pre-loaded with FreeNAS 11, the world’s #1 Open Source software-defined storage (SDS) that can support thousands of VMs. We also gave away other prizes, including a drawing for ten Amazon Echo Dots and an 8TB FreeNAS Mini. The winners have been picked and we will be contacting them shortly.

For those who prefer a pre-built storage appliance for their VMs, we showcased TrueNAS, which has the following features:

  • Unified: Simultaneously a SAN, NAS, and object store, supporting multiple workloads
  • Dense: Scales from a handful of TBs to nearly 5 PB
  • Self-healing: Uses OpenZFS to protect from bit-rot and to keep VMs safe
  • Trusted: Based on FreeNAS, the World’s #1 Open Source SDS
  • Ready: Certified by VMware and Veeam to support and protect VMs

Our demos showed the benefits of using TrueNAS with VMware, including our support of VAAI, certification with Veeam, integration with vCenter, and integration with VMware snapshots. iXsystems senior engineers were on hand to explain how to best utilize TrueNAS for vSphere 5, 6, and 6.5.
We’re committed to making the best products for vSphere. If you are virtualized or are thinking about virtualization then email us at info@ixsystems.com or call us at 1.855.GREP.4.IX and talk to us about virtualization; we’re here to help.
We look forward to seeing you all again in Las Vegas at VMworld in 2018!
