Hello All,

Sorry if this has been asked, I have searched the forum but feel my lack on knowledge of the vernacular may be preventing me from finding answers.

Working with Window Home, I can log into any of the SMB shares including Home.

Working with a brand-new computer running Windows 10 Pro, I can log into all my shares except for Home.

Background:

  • Running FreeNAS 11.2.
  • I’ve got 4 Windows shares. Backup (for a phone system on the network to backup to), Data (Common shares for staff), Home (My personal files), and Multimedia (also my personal files but separated as they do not back up to the offsite service).
  • Typically, we have a paid support person who takes care of the system, but he was unable to fix the issue.
  • Other users on the FreeNAS are unaffected as their computers have not changed. All other computers are running Windows 10 Home.

Again, in Windows 10 Home, I can map Backup, Data, Multimedia AND Home.

In Windows 10 Pro, I can map Backup, Data, Multimedia BUT NOT Home.

Assuming you've upgraded from an earlier version of FreeNAS, are you able to boot back into an earlier version and see if the problem persists? There are a number of posts floating around at the moment around issues with 11.2 and SMB that disappear when rolling back to 11.1.

Sigh. You're correct. I had upgraded when the problem started. However, the SSD was starting to act odd. Sometimes, I couldn't even see it in the BIOS, wiggle cables, reboot once or twice to get it working. So, I backed up, changed to dual USB 3.0 installed 11.2 and restored the config. So, no easy route to restore. And, due to being a rookie, I'm not even sure how to, or if I can restore at this point.

As a side note. I'm so amazed that I really had no idea what I was doing but, 20 minutes on the forum and I walked through changed from a SSD to dual USB and everything is working great. What an amazing piece of software.

If it's convenient and you have a spare USB stick, try installing 11.1-U7, which is available for download and restore your config to that. If that solves the issue, then at least it isolates the issue to 11.2. If this works, mirror that USB stick. When the SMB issues have been addressed, upgrade from 11.1-U7 to 11.2. This gives you an easy path to downgrade if issues persist.

Hello All,

I figured there was a chance my issue would be resolved in an update so, I took the lazy way out and just waited. I've recently updated Freenas to the 11.2 U3 from U2.

The issue has changed but not been corrected. I'm now getting a message "The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: A device attached to the system is not functioning."

To recap, I'm able to log into all shares including my home share on one computer, I'm able to log into all shares except my home share on the other.

When I first posted, I stated the working computer was windows 10 home the non working computer was windows 10 pro. I was spoke in error, they are both windows 10 Pro, same build number 17763. I have no idea why I thought the one computer was Windows Home. Sorry if that's mislead.

I'm convinced it's the fault of the nonworking computer as it was purchased about the same time as I upgraded freenas. My PBX phone system Grandstream UCM 6204 running a GUI wrapped version of Asterix) is also able to successfully backup to my home share.

Thoughts?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
