I was previously on 11.1-U6. Prior to upgrading I cleaned up some old cruft I had leftover from Corral on the system (namely the old jails[there is a new jails mount] and the old vm). I switched trains to 11.2-RELEASE and told it to upgrade and on boot I am greeted with:

Jan 27 22:30:53 init: can't exec /bin/sh for /etc/rc: No such file or directory
Enter full pathname of shell or RETURN for /bin/sh:

If I hit ENTER, I then get:

init: can't exec /bin/sh for single user: No such file or directory

Uhhh....WTF do I do here?

FYI, I was able to switch the boot loader back to 11.1-U6 and things come up just fine. But this gives me zero confidence in FreeNAS ability to upgrade releases now.

Regarding the hardware, its a Supermicro X10SL7-F motherboard, Core i3-4170 cpu, 16GB ECC RAM, SAS2308 (x2) [one on the motherboard, one in a PCI-E card]. Regarding the "Resolving Boot Issues" my boot device is a SATA SSD, so the USB copy issue seems really unlikely, but I will give that a test when I can schedule some downtime on the box.
