Hello,

i have an problem with my FreeNAS 9.2.1.7 x64.

My NAS Server is build on ASRock E350M1 mainboard with 4GB DDR-3 RAM.

Unfortunatelly, after some minutes of activity, the NAS doesn´t respond. I can see it in my network, but i can´t open the shares, the NAS web GUI url but can ping it.

Other times i can open the shares, can ping the NAS on his IP address, but cannot open the GUI url. I get the following message in my browser:

"Unhandled Exception
An unhandled exception was thrown by the application"

Start by meeting the minimum requirements (8GB of RAM).

More information about your system would also be helpful.

I have only
FreeNAS 9.2.1.7 x64.
on ASRock E350M1 mainboard
4GB DDR-3 RAM.
2x 2 TB HDD @ 7200 rpm in RAID and UFS. What do you want to know more?

Not ZFS. In the documentation i can read:

"If you plan to use your server for home use, you can often soften the rule of thumb of 1 GB of RAM for
every 1 TB of storage
, though 8 GB of RAM is still the recommended minimum. If performance is
inadequate you should consider adding more RAM as a first remedy. The sweet spot for most users in
home/small business is 16GB of RAM."

Ok, next test. I have now connection to the NAS GUI and i can open the "FREENAS" object in in my Windows 7 network. After it i see the "homes" share. Here i can´t open the "homes" object.

Sounds like a permission problem.

"Recommended minimum" in this context means "it's not unlikely that stuff will randomly break due to the lack of RAM if you try to use less", as discussed endlessly on the forums...

That sounds like "add more RAM".

The current wiki page says "FreeNAS® with ZFS requires a minimum of 8 GB of RAM in order to provide good stability regardless of the number of users or size of the pool."

That is the basic honest-to-god truth.

Hey, if you want to get technical you could even argue "8GB ECC RAM". :P

Reallly? 8GB RAM for simply NAS Server?

I ordered 8GB...
The OS itself doesn't really require that much. It's mainly ZFS.

I haven´t ZFS ! I ordered this RAM: BLS2CP4G3D1339DS1S00CEU
You don't have ZFS means you plan on running UFS, I assume. Just a heads up, UFS will no longer be supported, so you pretty much will no longer get updates after this version.
