I've tried three times to reply to your latest post, Dusan, but they all seem to have got lost, even though I had just re-logged in (I've been timed out a couple of times). Fortunately, I'd copied the post to the clipboard before clicking [Post Reply] so have got the last one back. I hope this one actually does post.

Well, I wasn't ABSOLUTELY certain I had done the Quick Wipe, so did it all again from gmirrro stop, then Quick Wipe, then try to recreate the mirror.

Same result when I try to recreate the Raid1 volume, and almost but not quite identical error messages, including the same string of notifier messages implying that this USB stick too has lost all the tables the system is looking for.

So I think my next step should be to get a new branded USB stick before trying again, in the light of cyberjocks advice.

I do have a Kingston branded SD card. Is that worth trying? The card reader has a USB interface, and I can boot from it.

I'm being dense. They'd just gone to the next page, and I thought I was at the end. If a moderator can delete the redundant ones, please do. Sorry.

It may work. Some people has success with SD cards, some didn't. Are you able to set the SD card as a boot device?
Also, while waiting for the new USB stick please run a memory test: http://memtest86.com/

Just tried the SD card. I can boot from it, but it gets an error when I try to write to it during installation (and no, it isn't locked to Read Only!)

Will try the memory test. But possibly not tonight - running out of time.

Downloaded and am now running Memtest86. Only 13% through at the moment (showing Pass for all so far), so I'll leave it running overnight as I'm off to bed.

Lexar 8GB USB memory stick on order, but may take a week to deliver.

SD cards don't generally work. Brand name USB stick only.

Well, my Lexar 8GB thumb drive has just arrived, and appears to be working. I think I've made some mistakes in structuring the folders on the Raid1 volume, but that's a separate issue and I can work on that, or even start over.

Given my experience, could someone PLEASE put a REQUIREMENT in the supported Hardware list that you MUST use a quality, branded USB memory stick! It's covered in some of the forum posts, but I could have saved HOURS if this had been made clear at the outset.

I still don't really understand why this is necessary, but clearly it just doesn't work properly on no-name branded USB memory.

There is NOTHING in the Compact or USB Flash section of the hardware requirements of the main documentation that mentions it, or that says SD cards mostly don't work either.

Many thanks.

Oh that it had been there in December when I started!

Now I'm wrestling (so far unsuccessfully) to set up a Windows share. In case that too is hardware related, I'm about to change from the onboard Realtek LAN device to an Intel Desktop 1GB LAN card. Maybe that will solve the sharing, but I can't see why it should, nor why what I am doing doesn't so far work. More perhaps in a separate thread.
