At the FreeBSD booth, Dru Lavigne and I handed out FreeNAS and PC-BSD install disks and collected donations for the FreeBSD Foundation. We talked with a number of system administrators – most of them knew about FreeBSD, of course, so we got to update them on the status of FreeBSD’s development (FreeBSD 9 is due out very, very soon!). We spread the word about the BSD Certification course, the next exam for which will be at SCALE in January 2012.
We got to meet some of the world’s youngest Daemonettes, as well.
Over at the iXsystems booth, conversation centered around TrueNAS, but ranged afield from Solaris (where ZFS originated) to the history of iXsystems. Attendees got a kick out of James pulling a drive out of a running box to show how TrueNAS handles drive failures. Demonstrations and insightful conversations attracted moderate crowds – the booth was busy throughout both days. All in all, it was a good trip and a fun show!
