Codestock 2017: Josh Smith’s Reflection

Another day, another conference in the books! Kris, Christian, Sam, and I attended Codestock 2017 from May 5th, 2017 to May 6th, 2017 in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee. This year, the venue was located at the Knoxville Convention Center, next to the sunsphere in the World’s Fair Park.
Codestock is a general tech conference that hosts various tech related events from programming languages to entrepreneurial break-out sessions. We attended several break-out sessions including: Python Development, The Leadership Skills My Team Wish I Had, Why Worry About the User? (GUI / Web Design Focus), and many more. Roughly a dozen break-out sessions were going on at any given time.

Codestock representatives stated that over 1,500 people signed up for the conference, and judging by the number of people floating in the hallways and classrooms, that couldn’t have been far off. Since we discovered this conference recently, we weren’t able to get a booth this year. However, several of us are planning to submit talks, and we’re hoping we can get a booth next year!
In conclusion, Codestock was a very well-organized conference, and the venue was spacious. Codestock would be a great conference to have a few talks about FreeNAS, TrueNAS, TrueOS, or even iXsystems! We look forward to attending next year.
