Cloud Computing Expo 2014 Recap

November 12, 2014

Last week, we had a booth at Cloud Computing Expo 2014. Since the conference was right in our backyard, we sent a pretty sizable group to represent Team iX.

The conference marked the debut of our newest booth backdrop—a design showing the relationship between iXsystems, FreeNAS and TrueNAS. We also sent along an assortment of daemon horns, keychains, and other schwag.

Attendance and traffic were good during the first two days of the expo. Over the course of the conference, about 1000 people were in attendance but some of them only attended the talks. A large number of the attendees were engineers, developers, and marketing specialists. The expo served alcohol on opening night. Lucky for us, our booth was right next to the alcohol stand. We got a lot of traffic as people waited in line and checked out our booth at the same time.

Our booth stood out because we offered something that was not strictly “cloud”. The open floor plan of the conference helped drive traffic to our booth. About 35% of the people who stopped by our booth were already familiar with FreeNAS but most of them weren’t as knowledgeable about iXsystems or TrueNAS. We made sure to change that!

Overall, it was a good experience. We talked to a lot of people about FreeNAS/TrueNAS and a number of people were interested in deploying our products at their businesses. Stay tuned for our next conference recap about LISA 2014!
