2013 Winter and Early Spring Tradeshows

}

February 6, 2013

As the last traces of imaginary snow begins to melt in Northern California, the employees at iXsystems welcome spring with a fresh new lineup of tradeshows. In the remaining days of February, we will be attending a User Group Connect in Ottawa as well as SCALE in Los Angeles. In March, we will send team members out to Japan, Massachusetts, and South Carolina. It’s already shaping up to be a busy and productive season, but the iX team is ready!

Ottawa User Group Connect February 9
User Group Connect is a relaxed, unconference-style meetup of the numerous User Groups in Ottawa. The event will be held from 10am-5pm at Shopify in the Byward Market. Dru Lavigne will staff a FreeBSD booth, and there will be PC-BSD 9.1 DVDs, FreeNAS 8.3 CDs, and various schwag items for those who drop by.

SCALE February 22-24

We love attending the Southern California Linux Expo– it’s fun, educational, and there are tons of Open Source software booths to explore. This year, we will have a BSD booth in the Expo Hall where the team will hand out PC-BSD 9.1 DVDs, FreeNAS 8.3 CDs, FreeBSD brochures, and an awesome selection of schwag. Make sure to come by early, as the blinking daemon horns always go fast.

Kris Moore, founder and lead developer of PC-BSD, will give a presentation on deploying FreeBSD and PC-BSD systems using a PXE boot installation server. Dru Lavigne, lead documentation writer for FreeNAS, will present on extending NAS functionality using the FreeNAS plugins system.

Open Source Days March 9-10

This is a premier Open Source event hosted in Denmark. The participants mostly consist of system admins, network admins, software developers, and/or project managers. There will be a variety of exhibitors, training courses, and speakers at the event, and it is a great opportunity to meet developers and contributors of Open Source projects. Visitors can find the usual PC-BSD and FreeNAS software discs and collateral at the BSD booth this year.

AsiaBSDCon March 14-17

This conference takes place in Tokyo, Japan and offers technical papers and presentations from the Open Source community for all users and developers working with systems based on FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, DragonFlyBSD, Darwin, or MacOS X. This year, iXsystems is sending multiple speakers to AsiaBSDCon.

Kris Moore will talk about automating the deployment of FreeBSD and PC-BSD systems, John Hixson will enlighten attendees on FreeNAS Plugins, and Davide Italiano, along with Alexander Motin, will give a presentation on Calloutng.

Northeast LinuxFest March 16-17

The Northeast GNU/Linuxfest will be hosted at Harvard University this year. The event seeks to bring awareness of Open Source software to college students, schools, interested programmers, and entrepreneurs. PC-BSD DVDs, FreeNAS CDs, and various BSD schwag will be circulating throughout the show, so make sure to keep an eye out for those.

POSSCON March 27-28

The Palmetto Open Source Software Conference, located in Columbia, South Carolina, is an exciting regional event that continues to showcase the hottest and most relevant topics in information technology. The two day conference offers training and presentations on dozens of subjects: from case studies to technology overviews, to the tools you need to get work done. Whether you are a developer, sysadmin, manager, or educator, you will find information that is both helpful and relevant. iXsystems will have several representatives at the show to give away PC-BSD and FreeNAS software discs along with a variety of collateral and schwag.
