2013 Summer Tradeshows

We wrapped up our spring tradeshows at the end of May. With the incoming heat of summer, we now prepare ourselves for a new lineup of shows and conferences. Here are a few that we have already attended and some we are gearing up for:

Southeast Linuxfest June 7-9
SELF is a community event for anyone who wants to learn more about Linux and Free & Open Source software. It is part educational conference and part social gathering. Attendees of all skill levels gather to communicate tips, ideas, and brainstorm ways to benefit all users of Linux and Open Source software. Southeast Linuxfest is a place to learn, make new friends, network with new business partners, and most importantly, have fun!

This year we sent Dru Lavigne, Kris Moore, Ken Moore, and Josh Smith to Charlotte, North Carolina. They helped staff a booth at the event and represented FreeBSD, PC-BSD, and FreeNAS.

Cloud Expo June 10-13

As with every Cloud Expo, there is a vast selection of technical and strategic breakout sessions, General Sessions, Industry Keynotes, signature discussions called “Power Panels”, and a bustling Expo floor. In addition, there are two busy Demo Theaters so that delegates can kick the tires of solutions and offerings and discuss one-on-one with all the leading Cloud and Big Data players what they are offering and how to make use of it. Cloud Expo attracts thousands of attendees, and this year we sent our very own Sales Account Manager, Kevin Le, to join the fray. Kevin was a busy bee on the Expo floor, meeting up with customers, networking on the company’s behalf, and checking out the latest developments on the Cloud computing frontier.

Open Help June 15-19

Open Help brings together leaders in open source documentation and support, as well as people from across the technical communications industry who are interested in community-based help. This conference features two days of presentations and open discussions. In true open source spirit, our discussions and agenda are led by the attendees, allowing users to learn and share what matters to them. Dru is heading to downtown Cincinnati for this year’s conference. She will be leading the FreeBSD doc sprint on the third day.

O’Reilly Open Source Convention July 22-26

It seems that every year, OSCON garners more and more attention. This year is shaping up to be no different. With thousands of attendees in the green town of Portland, Oregon, OSCON is a must-attend gathering with five immersive days of all things open source—new and innovative projects, and major enterprise-wide deployments. OSCON is where all of the pieces come together: developers, innovators, businesspeople, and investors. Now in its 15th year, OSCON is a wonderful opportunity to prepare for what comes next, from learning new skills to understanding how new and emerging open source technologies are going to impact how we live, work, and do business.

This year we will have Denise, Ben, and Annie from the Marketing Team along with Deb Goodkin and Ed Maste from the FreeBSD Foundation at the show. They will be educating attendees about FreeBSD and the Foundation, as well as passing out the latest releases of PC-BSD and FreeNAS and handing out daemon horns. It’s definitely worthwhile to stop by and check it out!

ILF highlights the best and brightest, from the hobbyist to the professional. Dru, Kris, Ken, and Josh Smith will be at the show to promote PC-BSD and FreeBSD. FOSSCON August 10

The people behind Fosscon are open source software enthusiasts, user group members, coders and users. Free software is all about the community and this is a grassroots event organized by the community, for the community. The common goal is to provide a space for all users to come together in the Northeast area. Dru will give a presentation on FreeNAS and administer the BSD Certification exams. She, along with Josh Smith, will have the latest releases of PC-BSD and FreeNAS at the FreeBSD Project booth. So be sure to drop by, say hi, and grab yourself a copy!
