User's Primary Group shows no members

When checking Members in the Groups panel, groups show no users that have that group set as primary and only show users that have it set as auxiliary. Is this normal and how come? Are the users still actually members of their primary group and will have access to files if their primary group is allowed access?

How did you set up your users and groups? Typically each user gets a primary group that matches their account name and can also be added to auxiliary groups that you create.

I've started with setting up groups (Admins, Family...) and then proceeded to create users and setting one of those groups as their Primary group. They do end up as their members when I "id" check them, but the GUI doesn't show them under the members list. Only users that have auxiliary groups set have their names shown in those groups.
