Hello all -- first some specs:

FreeNAS 9.1.1 (tried 9.1.0 first) installed on USB flash drive
Supermicro 8-bay
Intel Xeon 2ghz
8GB ECC RAM
3x 2TB
3x 1TB

The way I'm reading things I should be able to create a RAIDZ2 volume which will sacrifice 1TB from each of the 2TB drives thereby giving me a 4TB usuable array with 2TB used for parity. Assuming that's correct, my problem is that when I use the GUI to create my volume I end up with two RAIDZ volumes, one 3x2TB and the other 3x1TB which are combined to give me 6TB usable. While that does give me more available space I'm still subject to RAIDZ's single drive failure which I would like to avoid by going with RAIDZ2 (correct me if I'm wrong.)

I understand from this thread (http://forums.freenas.org/threads/freenas-9-1-zfs-volume-of-different-drive-size.13549/) that FreeNAS 9 has removed the option to create a RAIDZ2 volume of less-than-optimal settings. That thread indicates it's possible to force a RAIDZ2 array by using the command line but I haven't been able to track down anything that says how to do that. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks a bunch!
