Should I RMA this hard drive?

Hi,

I've been undertaking burn in tests on a new configuration, before installing FN10.

I'm getting errors on a hard drive, but it seems to have passed extended smart tests and 4 bad block tests. Results shown below.

My question is, should I be looking to RMA the drive given that there are non zero figures for the RAW values, for a number of variables: Raw_Read_Error_Rate, Seek_Error_Rate and Hardware_ECC_Recovered ? The drive is in warranty. But it passes SMART tests?

Any help appreciated.

This drive appears to have the smart values of a Seagate brand drive. Seagate drives are very different in the way they report SMART values
when compared to most other manufacturers. Keep an eye on line 197 and if it remains a zero value, your drive is probably fine.
If you want reassurance, you can Google this for more information ;)

Hi Big Dave,

Thanks for the reply - yes you are right, this is a Seagate ES.3 SATA drive. I found similar results on 3 other ES3 drives once they completed, so does look like it could be the manufacturer setup as you suggest.

I found the following useful:

Code:
Backblaze's analysis of nearly 40,000 drives showed five SMART metrics that correlate strongly with impending disk drive failure:

  • SMART 5 - Reallocated_Sector_Count.
  • SMART 187 - Reported_Uncorrectable_Errors.
  • SMART 188 - Command_Timeout.
  • SMART 197 - Current_Pending_Sector_Count.
  • SMART 198 - Offline_Uncorrectable

Taken from a Computer World article on Backblaze HDs. All of these indicators, across all 4 HDs ES.3 drives are coming up as zero, and have passed SMART extended plus badblocks fine.

Thank you again for your support, looks like it isn't a problem with the drives after all.
