Hopefully someone can help me, I was messing about with permissions and now all my plugins have turned off and they won't come back on.

When I click the red slider, a spinning circle appears for a couple of seconds then stops. nothing appears in console.
when I ssh into a jail and try to start the plugin i get this..

root@btsync_1:/ # service -R
btsync not running? (check /var/run/btsync/btsync.pid).
Starting btsync.
su: pam_start: system error
/usr/sbin/service: WARNING: failed to start btsync
root@btsync_1:/ #

I've tried rebooting countless times and rolling back the jail but nothing has changed.

I have only a basic knowledge so please be kind
Thanks

did you change ownership permissions of the jail/plugin datasets? that will brake them past repair. they are OS and application files that need specific permissions. only ever change the permissions of datasets you mount into your jails.

I suggest you..
* backup the data-directories for the plugins. most are in /var/db/PLUGIN
* delete all your plugins/jails + jail dataset
* install your plugins
* restore the data directories, you need to set specific ownership for these folders

thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, I was trying to solve another problem when I foolishly ticked the 'set permission recursively' box which obviously filtered down to my jails.

I'll give it a try and let you know how I get on

thanks again

welcome, that's one way to learn. at least they were just virtual machines and the damage is repairable.

Yeah I just hope I can recover my settings.
what specific ownership should I give the data directories?
Don't want to make a mess of it again

depends on the plugin. most of the media ones use 'media' but not all of them.

what you can do is start and stop each plugin, then you'll see what owner the directory it created has.
