Hi Team

Well my previous (current) NAS breaks pretty much every rule of the 'hardware recommendations' thread along with running at 90% capacity so with much reading and telling myself the credit card can handle it and tomorrow guy can deal with the guilt, I have put together the following list to be acquired rather shortly... pending any feedback so I can get started on the burn in.

It's at http://pricespy.co.nz/list.php?l=144522&view=m but for a text version we have...

1 x ASRock C2750D4I Motherboard (with integrated CPU)
2 x Crucial DDR3 1600 ECC 8gb RAM (from the motherboard's QVL list)
1 x 8 port LSI 9211-8i 2.0 RAID Card in IT mode
1 x 450w CS450M Corsair PSU
8 x WD Red 4TB
1 x Nanoxia Deep Silence DS6 over the top huge case.
1 x Sandisk 16GB USB3 for boot

Didn't opt for a supermicro board as they are priced rather silly here in NZ and availability is just as silly. You'll see the raid card is 600$+ NZD (which is the only store listing the any recommended supermicro boards, not in stock either) which is why I have one coming from Ebay along with the cables recommended in that auction.

Only other concern I have is the PSU size (various calculators I have played with peg me at 250-350w). Any need for higher? Other than that, I welcome any feedback, thanks in advance!

You'll want a Seasonic G-360 PSU at the very least. 250W is pushing it with 8 drives, but 350ish should be ok. Your upgrade options would be restricted, though, so consider something a bit bigger. The Corsair isn't a bad choice, but the Seasonic G-450 is a bit better and shouldn't be much more expensive.

Thanks Ericloewe, that 250-350w came from the output of what I put into calculators around how much power it 'might' use with 8 drives, intel atom matx board, etc etc etc.

The actual power supply on the list is 450w but I checked the seasonic and yeah it's pretty much the same price and an extra 2 years of warranty so will switch over to that. Modular too, win!

Really nice case 13 hdd removable cages, and fans on those hdd's, and also in front noise dampening door witch absorbs hdd+hddfan noises and same time it allows you to easily open front door and clean those dust filters. But price =( damn it's too high even for my taste, have to wait it to go down. http://www.google.com/search?hl=fi&safe=off&q=199,90 EURO IN USD
(Funny, its 1€=1$ in shop where i live..)
