I've used up all 6 SATA ports on my motherboard along with all 6 power plugs from that PSU. The setup is six 4TB drives in RAIDZ2.
I've picked up two 12TB drives that I want to add as a separate mirror pool.

I have room in the case to add them for now.

  • I am going to need some more SATA ports of course. Reading through some of the documents and the forums, I believe any of these two should work:

https://www.amazon.ca/SAS9211-8I-8P...a+SAS+Pcie+2.0&qid=1563562437&s=gateway&sr=8-

Would this one from eBay work also?

I'm located in Canada and open to suggestions if there are better/more cost effective options. I also prefer if I don't have to flash the cards to IT mode myself if possible

  • I need more SATA power for the new drives. These are the PSU connectors:
Connectors1 x 20+4pin Main Connector
1 x 4/8pin CPU
2 x 6+2pin PCI-E
5 x Peripheral
6 x SATA
1 x Floppy

What adapters should I be looking for? Peripheral/molex to SATA? Is it safe and stable?

  • For future expansion beyond these two additional drives, are there brackets+mounts that I can add to this case to add more drives? Or should I consider looking for a new case?

If there's anything I missed, please let me know. Thanks!

Quality made cables that are molex -> SATA should be fine. I wouldn't daisy chain too many though. Many of the adapters are 1 molex -> 3 SATA so you should have plenty of options.

There exist expansion slot bracket adapters which you could use if you didn't want to upgrade. Keep in mind the more disks you add may result in higher the temps in your case.

Definitely keep an eye on your disk temps. Things will get warm.
