Hello Experts,

I tried to get more performance out of my NAS and got a USB3-Controller and 2 * 16GB USB3-Sticks for a additional log-mirror.

creating the mirror and using it works. But a reboot or a shutdown doesn't work anymore.

These are the last lines on the console:

usbus0: Controller shutdown
uhub0: at usbus0, port1, addr1 (disconnected)
ugen0,2: <ADATA> at usbus0 (disconnected)
umass0: at uhub0, port1, addr1 (disconnected)

If I remove the log-device from the zpool everything works fine again
and there is no problem if the USB-Sticks are just plugged in and not in use.

My Configuration is a simple zfs-mirror with 2 1,5 TB Disks.

thanks in advance,

Hi,

I found the solution:

just add the following line to the loaeder.conf:

hw.usb.no_shutdown_wait=1

that's it. one reboot and it's activated. :D

regards

Thanks, this solved shutdown issues for me. My boot volume is connected to USB3 (with the xhci_load tunable set to YES) which I guess triggered it for me.

Wait. What?! You're using a USB flash drive as a SLOG? Or am I completely reading this wrong?

Looking at your signature you ARE using USB drives as a SLOG device. I can't tell you how incredibly insane that is. I strongly recommend that you remove the SLOG from your existing pool as soon as possible. If you have a use case for a SLOG device, make sure you use SATA or SAS SSDs, never USB. Just don't arbitrarily add a SLOG or L2ARC because you are likely going to impact your performance. It's much better to throw more RAM at it.

Oh jeez. I think I just fell into the necrophilia trap and didn't notice the original post date, raising topics from the dead. Mod's, please lock this thread.
