Can anyone tell me whether the Intel PRO/1000 Pt Dual Port Server Adapter is supported on v8.3.1-RELEASE-p2-x64?

I have just installed this NIC in my Asus C60M1-I system but after booting into the OS I don't get an IP via DHCP

They are...

If you do an ifconfig from the command line you should see an interface like em0. If you do then the NIC driver is loading and stuff. If you read the stuff for em0 you might see what the problem is. I'd check your network cables and stuff. More than likely that's the issue.

When you say "from the command line" do you mean by selecting 9 (I think it was 9) from the physical server console? Or the shell through the web GUI? Or a ssh console using something like putty? I cannot login as root using ssh, I think I read somewhere once that ssh as root is blocked. In any case, through the web GUI shell I ran ifconfig I think lo0 is the new Intel cards interface:

lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 16384
options=3<RXCSUM,TXCSUM>
inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x9
inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000
nd6 options=3<PERFORMNUD,ACCEPT_RTADV>
bridge0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500

member: epair0a flags=143<LEARNING,DISCOVER,AUTOEDGE,AUTOPTP>
ifmaxaddr 0 port 11 priority 128 path cost 2000
epair0a: flags=8943<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,PROMISC,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu
1500

ether 02:c6:c2:00:0b:0a

media: Ethernet 10Gbase-T (10Gbase-T <full-duplex>)
status: active

That was while the onboard NIC was connected, and not the new Intel card, so that I could web into the server, but running ifconfig at the physical server console while only the new Intel card is connected gives me the same thing. The only thing that's clear to me looking at that output is that it's not getting a link. It's not the physical cable because the onboard NIC gets a link on the same cable.

Thanks for the help.

lo0 is LOOPBACK, as it says....

if you have ssh enabled, you can indeed log in as root.

I found the setting in the SSH plugin "Login as Root with password" that I enabled to allow root access.

So the new Intel card doesn't seem to be listed there, here's the complete output:

You might want to check to see what's supported in that slot.

It might only support a video card.

So the new Intel card doesn't seem to be listed there

Also, there have been knockoff Intel Pro cards in the channel in the past; I've got a Pro/1000 Dual MT box here that is basically indistinguishable from the real thing ... except for one typo. Have you used this card successfully on a different machine?

I haven't actually "used" it but I installed it in a Windows Server 2012 machine and I got link lights and Windows could see both ports. I'm just waiting for Asus' chat support to open to talk to them about what is supported in the PCIe slot.

So turns out there was an obscure setting in the Asus C60M1-I BIOS, something do video being enabled or not, that had disabled the PCIe slot. Asus tech support didn't even know about it I assume because they wanted to RMA the board.

All is good now, both ports are up.
