Hi,

I never upgraded FreeNas since i first installed it. It work perfectly fine for me, but with all those vulnerabilities of last year i am concerned...

I have version :
FreeNAS-8.3.0-RELEASE-p1-x64 (r12825)

Can you guys help me by telling me the step i have to take to upgrade everything? I have over 5TB of data, do i really need to backup all this stuff before ? Can i upgrade directly to 9.3 or i have to upgrade to 9.1 first? I read that i'll have problem with my jail that i do use with plugins

thanks !

If your nas isn't open to the internet and you trust your users you don't have much reason to upgrade. That said I think everyone should update just to be more stable.

What hardware so you have? If your build is older you might not have hardware that is good enough for a newer build.

Lastly you should always have a backup of your data. A 5tb external drive is ~$129 which is probably a price you would be willing to pay if you're data was just gone one day.
