Help with "memory error" issue

This desktop is just a fairly "general purpose" desktop. Lots of writing documents, surfing the internet, a little streaming movies and gaming (simcity, adventuring, etc... nothing overly strenuous), and occasional video editing of family home movies. I also do a little AutoCad now and to draw up parts to be water jet, but nothing heavy. I use a pair of 60Gig SSDs (because I don't want to buy a 120Gig), one for the OS (C:) and one for the local files (D:). The old 775 system had a healthy overclock (450FSB) which made it really snappy.

Until recently I had been using Windows 7, but recently started dabbling with Windows 8.1 (overall it suits my needs).
