I tried to perform an upgrade from v9.2.1.2 to v9.2.1.3: Using a Windows 7 Pro PC running Firefox, to connect to an HP N54L microserver I
  • downloaded the file: 64 bit upgrade (FreeNAS-9.2.1.3-RELEASE-x64.GUI_Upgrade.txz)
  • confirmed the SHA256 hash (99C839EA26695FA84674AA6285B1ED03F41E37D1C5D274C1612B5CF40F4DD7D4)
  • went to System, Settings, Advanced, selected Firmware Update
  • downloaded the current configuration
  • uploaded the .tzx file (above)
  • entered the hash value (above; which is correct)
The result is "error invalid firmware, wrong checksum".

I ran into the same exact problem as you. When I finally did get an upgrade to take it would error during the upgrade and ended up killing the NAS so I had to rebuild the thumb drive. I would recommend doing a backup of your config and then rebuild your USB and restore from your backup. Longest part is waiting for the USB to rebuild.

Thanks. I read the release notes for 9.2.1.2 and was not aware they'd been updated, and that the software was updated, with no version number update. I've never come across such a thing. Even a 9.2.1.2a would have prompted one to look at what had changed :(

I'll apply the fix but am wondering if I should give 9.2.1.3 a miss.

I'm used to Ubuntu's Long Term Support release philosophy and that's what I'd like to see in FreeNAS, and it seems the opposite of what is happening now.
