A little back ground of my prior setup:
I initially had my N40L running WHS2K11 connected to a Sans Digital tr8u+b 8 bay enclosure connected via USB 3.0. The drives were set up as 8 separate physical drives (no raid)
Current thoughts on re-purposing sans digital tr8u+b 8 bay enclosure to setup FreeNAS 8:
Use an old dell desktop PC that will have the tr8u+b connected via USB 3.0
Question is will it be possible to keep the current data intact that are on 8 drives in the tr8u+b if I setup FreeNAS 8 to have these drives as separate physical drives?
The end result I am trying to accomplish is to setup FreeNAS on my desktop with tr8u+b connected via USB 3.0 with data intact from previous N40L setup and have the vm's (hosts) on my N40L repurposed micro server running (ESXi 5) that can access this NAS.
