Deploying multiple NICs on SuperMicro with FreeNAS 9.3

I have a SuperMicro with FreeNAS 9.3 and the SuperMicro has a ½ dozen unused Gb Ethernet ports. How hard is it to turn on the NIC ports in a different subnet and share the LUNs on the FreeNAS server?

I saw another poster talking about a direct Ethernet feed from FreeNAS server to an other production server. Is this an accepted practice for SANs and are there any drawbacks? Would this speed things up if a ½ dozen nearby servers bypassed the Gb switch?

Thanks everyone.

There's nothing inherently wrong with this, but it involves obvious extra management steps.

Also, 9.3 is rather ancient by this point, you should look into upgrading.
