I have a SuperMicro with FreeNAS 9.3 and the SuperMicro has a ½ dozen unused Gb Ethernet ports. How hard is it to turn on the NIC ports in a different subnet and share the LUNs on the FreeNAS server?
I saw another poster talking about a direct Ethernet feed from FreeNAS server to an other production server. Is this an accepted practice for SANs and are there any drawbacks? Would this speed things up if a ½ dozen nearby servers bypassed the Gb switch?
Thanks everyone.
