hello all. i'm currently backing up my freebsd 9.1.0 nas via ftp on my laptop with a series of usb drives.....it works. the drives vary in size 500gb to 2tb. is there any other way to do this with incremental backups and compression (to save time due to usb 2) to these usb hard drives i have? i was hoping to be able to use zfs send or rysnc if possible.

Not really. :(

Both of those require you to break down the data into sections that are small enough to fill the applicable drive. There's no easy way besides manually doing it :(

I know someone that's in a similar boat, and its a very very slow process. Not to mention USB is flaky so he's worried some drives might not work fully when it comes time to move the data back.

it did take a while and for the most part was pretty solid thankfully. i did "export" my filezilla queue just in case and it did come in handy on the last disc when the laptop kernel panicked.
