Since updating to 9.2 from 9.1, one of my boxes has had a recurring disk or share problem. The symptom is that when copying 4+ GB to it, I get an error msg that the network resource is no longer available (on my Win 7 box). The GUI remains available. This is on 1 of 4 servers only. The only thing I can see new if during boot, I see the following errors in the log.

(ada4:ahcich4:0:0:0): READ_FPDMA_QUEUED. ACB: 60 10 90 02 40 40 00 00 00 00 00 00
(ada4:ahcich4:0:0:0): CAM status: ATA Status Error
(ada4:ahcich4:0:0:0): ATA status: 41 (DRDY ERR), error: 40 (UNC )
(ada4:ahcich4:0:0:0): RES: 41 40 97 02 40 40 00 00 00 00 00
(ada4:ahcich4:0:0:0): Error 5, Retries exhausted

Zpool scrub is showing no errors.

I've attached smartctl short text results excerpt.

The only next step I can see is replace ada4. Suggestions solicited. Thanks for any help!

Your next step is to replace that disk.

I see you have only 1 SMART short test that has been performed on the drive. Good admin practices recommend you do regular long tests(I do every other week) to help identify failing disks. Although you need to make sure your long tests are not scheduled at the same time as other heavy disk activity such as scrubs or backups.

Thanks for the advice. I only included the most recent short test as indicative of the possible problem. Based on my experience and that I am not very sensitive to single drive data errors (z2 pools and redundant servers) I find monthly scrub and smartctl sufficient.

FreeNAS makes it easy to replace the disk & resilvering is quick.

Thanks,
John
