Hi there,
You gotta check the SMART status of your drive ada4.
Do you have scheduled long and short SMART tests on all your drives ?
smartctl -x /dev/ada4
Start here: https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?resources/hard-drive-troubleshooting-guide.17/What should I do ?
BTW: What is your system config ?
Build FreeNAS-9.10.1-U2 (f045a8b) Platform Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4430 CPU @ 3.00GHz Memory 16003MB System Time Mon Nov 28 22:18:21 EST 2016 Uptime 10:18PM up 30 days, 3:45, 0 users Load Average 0.67, 0.45, 0.41
You can run the following command for instance:
smartctl -x /dev/ada4

Thanks all for the help, I ordered a new case which comes with a lot fans and awesome cooling specs.
I also filled up a ADVANCE RMA request with WD.
However, i have a dumb question:
I assume the correct procedure is :
1) Plug in the new drive
2) Use the "replace" feature in the FreeNAS GUI
3) Remove the culprit
4) SUCCESS
But my question is "hardware oriented": if I plug in the new drive I'm going to obviously use a different cable and connector than the initial one used by the faulty drive.
Once I'm done, can I unplug it, and use the initial cable and connector previously used by the faulty drive for the new drive? Or I shouldn't play around with that after the switch?
Please let the forum know whether they give you a refund, given that the disk was run above its specified maximum temperature for more than 5 days (assuming the count is in minutes).I also filled up a ADVANCE RMA request with WD.
2. Burn-in the drive/s using the ressources available in the forum (=> sticky)
ZFS bases itself on metadata to assign disks to pools, so you can move them around (or even change controller) and the disk will be recognized and used in the correct volume ;)
You are correct. The directions cover the situation when you have no spare drive ports. If you have a spare port, you can use the more robust approach of resilvering with the old drive in place. It's covered in the directions for replacing drives to grow a pool, but someone really should put in a bug/feature request to have the other directions modified too ;)Not sure about this though... unless there's something I don't understand, the documentation is saying to OFFLINE the failing drive before replacing it?
I really thought I needed to let the resilver complete and THEN offline the disk, and then take it out.
https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/15306someone really should put in a bug/feature request to have the other directions modified too ;)
