We have a new Downloads section that contains both PC-BSD® 8.2: Hubble Edition and PC-BSD® 9-CURRENT, the most recent testing snapshot for PC-BSD® 9: Isotope Edition, and an “IPv6-only” testing version of PC-BSD® 9.
IPv6-only versions of FreeBSD and PC-BSD® are made possible by a joint grant from iXsystems and the FreeBSD Foundation to Bjoern Zeeb (read more about that effort here). An IPv6-only operating system allows researchers and developers to test IPv6 use scenarios without being concerned about IPv4 fallbacks. The release of IPv6-Only Isotope Edition is part of the PC-BSD® Project’s efforts to raise awareness of IPv6, the next-generation Internet addressing technology.
PC-BSD® 9 is expected to be released in Fall of 2011. It will feature a revamped PBI (Push-Button Installer) System with a new utility, AppCafe, to replace PC-BSD® 8.x’s Software Manager. Most importantly, PC-BSD® will now be compatible with a wide variety of desktop environments, including KDE, GNOME, XFCE and LXDE.
