PC-BSD® lead developer Kris Moore was this week’s guest on FLOSS Weekly. You can find the episode here. The subject of the episode was PC-BSD®, but topics covered included a number of topics such as BSD history, open source licenses, and choice of text editor.
Regarding PC-BSD® specifically, Kris talked about everything from its history and inception to how version numbers work (they follow FreeBSD® version numbers) and who did the website (iXsystems)! Kris highlighted three of the most significant features of the upcoming PC-BSD® 9 (Isotope Edition): Support for multiple window managers, including GNOME and KDE; the updated PBI system for installing/updating applications; and the new AppCafe™ for downloading/managing PBIs.
This episode is a great introduction to PC-BSD® for those interested in open source operating systems. To learn more about PC-BSD®, visit PCBSD.org or join #pcbsd on Freenode.
