The FreeNAS™ Titan is a FreeBSD-based NAS (Network-Attached Storage) server that also supports disk encryption and has basic snapshot capability. Easily one of the most mature open source NAS platforms, and backed by an active community, iXsystems’ FreeBSD-based FreeNAS™ Titan covers just about all the bases for storage. FreeNAS™ Titan supports CIFS (Samba and Windows file sharing), FTP, NFS, AFP, RSYNC, iSCSI protocols, S.M.A.R.T., and local user authentication, with an attractive web management interface.
The FreeNAS™ software is installed on Compact Flash; the use of solid state memory to store the FreeNAS™ operating system results in a more reliable storage appliance. Additionally, the high-performance RAID controller contributes to the focus on reliability and fault-tolerance through support of RAID6 (and all other standard RAID levels) and is protected by 512MB of battery-backed on-board cache, for enhanced data protection.
