iXsystems, Inc. announced today a partnership with NetCraft Communications Inc., a global provider of computer infrastructure management including multi-platform management, compliance, asset management, software distribution, alerting and ticketing.

“The partnership between iXsystems and NetCraft Communications marks an important step forward for the PC-BSD development project. The availability of the Versiera PBI enables PC-BSD to have a system management offering similar to that provided by Canonical’s Landscape, the systems management and monitoring tool for Ubuntu”, says Michael Lauth, President and CEO of iXsystems.

We are excited about our collaboration with iXsystems and to be a part of the self-containing PBI system, says Frank Pikelner, CTO of NetCraft Communications. “This partnership supports our mission to make all technologies easier to control through a single system that simplifies computer infrastructure management,” he adds.

The agreement will make NetCraft’s Versiera Remote System Management and Monitoring Software available on PC-BSD. PC-BSD is a fully functional open source desktop operating system based on FreeBSD 6.3-STABLE. Versiera is a web-based system that simplifies the common routine tasks required for system administrators, thus reducing the total cost of ownership and enabling your company to focus on your business.

Versiera can quickly identify, notify and help preempt functionality problems at various layers of the infrastructure. Versiera also aids in detecting system performance issues and capacity limitations. As part of its monitoring, Versiera maintains a database of all systems and their hardware configurations, ensuring an accurate active asset inventory.

A PBI (push-button installer) has been released that will enable quick and easy deployment of the Versiera Software on PC-BSD. Any PC-BSD user can download the Versiera PBI from http://www.pbidir.com/bt/pbi/117 and run it on PC-BSD Version 1.4 Da Vinci Edition or PC-BSD Version 1.5 Edison Edition. Versiera gives you a real-time view of all of your hardware and software assets and can be used to consolidate management software.

Versiera is a single system that simplifies computer infrastructure management. It can be used to consolidate management software, allowing you to get the most out of your computing time.

Versiera offers the following compelling System Monitoring and Management Features:

  • Cross-platform: Versiera can monitor a wide range of open source platforms and offers full support for PC-BSD, FreeBSD, Linux, OpenBSD, and NetBSD.
  • Scalability: Versiera is designed to manage large installations of hosts, and is designed to scale so that it can monitor all hosts on the network, including critical servers. Different levels of monitoring can be configured for different hosts, ensuring that important events are not lost in noise.
  • Security: Versiera uses strong encryption to protect all communications and to authenticate all connections between hosts and Versiera’s management systems.
  • Extensibility: The capabilities of the Versiera platform can be expanded by end-users using both platform-specific run-time libraries and platform-independent high-level languages.
  • Openness: Versiera uses industry standard protocols for communication and representing data. Versiera’s database is accessible to external tools and database schema is provided with the Enterprise product.
