FreeBSD Developers’ Update

}

April 21, 2014

It’s been a while since we showcased some of our behind-the-scenes efforts, so here’s a quick update on what certain members of iXsystems have been working on for the FreeBSD community.
Craig Rodrigues recently published a status update in the latest FreeBSD quarterly status report regarding his work on continuous integration for FreeBSD using Jenkins. Continuous integration allows developers to commit code to a shared mainline multiple times a day, making it easier to integrate code and keep developers on the same page. More information about his work can be found here, along with a talk he gave at a recent BAFUG meeting.
In the previous quarterly status report, Alexander Motin also published a status update about his work regarding improving CAM and GEOM multiprocessor scalability. The changes that he implemented doubled the peak I/O rate on contemporary hardware, with rates reaching up to 1,000,000 IOPS.
A big thanks to Craig and Alexander for their work in improving the functionality of FreeBSD for the entire community! We look forward to seeing more great work from our team in the future.
