Have a network of two Windows 7 Professional computers, a FreeNAS box and a DIR-685
Storage Router.

Yesterday morning, all four were visible in the Network and Sharing centre.
Later that day, only the two Windows 7 computers are visible.

Both the FreeNAS box, and the DIR-685 are visible as Media devices
and I can play movies from both.

If I open Explorer, and try to access "\\FREENAS", then I can use the contents of the FreeNAS,
so the share seems to be working.

Can access the storage router in the same way.

Since the storage router disappeared at the same time, I think it is a Windows problem,
and not a FreeNAS problem.

Both Win 7 computers will upgrade automatically, so I suspect it is a new Microsoft
ploy, to discourage anything but Windows.

Anyone seen something similar?

Yeah I've seen something similar.
I have a Windows 7, Windows 8, tomato router, wireless printer, print server in FreeNAS jail, and the FreeNAS itself. All BUT the FreeNAS box shows up fine on network browser.

It's not really a Microsoft ploy. It's more like some setup on FreeNAS.
The reason why I say that is because the print server I set up on one of my jails has no problem showing up in my network browser 24/7.
The FreeNAS box, on the other hand, would only show up for like the first 5 minutes after boot. After that, it disappears and never comes back.
I've just chalked it up to some dumb bug that doesn't really bother me cause I don't use the network browser anyway (I just map a drive).

Strange, I've never had that problem with FreeNAS. I have had that problem with other servers(windows and non-windows) in the past.

It must be because I'm so cool.

I set up the network workgroup on the Win 7 machine again without changing any configuration, and then it reappeared.

BTW, If it was a FreeNAS setup thing, why would the storage router be affected?
