I have a dual-boot HTPC with Win7 64 and Win 8.1 64, both get static same IP by MAC of ethernet card.
For freenas I'm I have CIFs using guest account as prescribed by documentation.
Win7: Never had mapped drives disconnect or have //freenas links disconnect
Win 8.1: Continuously have these disconnect and reconnect
Win7 playout from Mediabrowser: Plays smoothly everytime
Win8.1: Continuously plays and stops then cannot play again though I check and am connected to source.
What I'm getting at is CIFs/Samba issues as if win7 and win8 are the only changes and they have different samba (2 vs 3) levels, then I believe it's between freenas and the samba/CIFs that it's using causing issues.
Again, it's the same client PC but in Win7 mode it's perfect, and Win8.1 it's getting horrible.
