Hi Guys, I hope you can help me out and of course you can.
I'd like to make some blog entries and I know there is a lot of software around. But what would you recommend if I do it on the FreeNas Box? The box runs 24/7 so why shouldn't I find a secure place for my stories?

best regards

1)FreeNAS isn't really designed for that,
2)If you use FreeNAS at home, your bottleneck will be your Internet connection (upload bandwidth generally restricted),
3)Solutions exist, easy to find...
4)This is feasible,
5)You have to install it on a jail yourself without official support or clear documentation,
6)Security aspect will be your nightmares,
7)Your stories need to be interesting,
8)You need time to spend,
Those are arguments I have found against this idea, I have definitely remove it from my head.

A ports jail on freenas is just freebsd so you could install WordPress on it. I run several WordPress instances in freebsd jails at my home and it works great.

you have to realize..
  • don't expect 100 uptime because your ISP doesn't lose money when your internet is broken unlike a proper datacenter.
  • you probably have a dynamic IP address. I use freedns to deal with this
unless you like tinkering and maintaining complicated stuff it's not worth it. just use an online provider
