Hello,

this is my first post here and my first steps with FreeNAS. Hello :)

I'm currently checking, if FreeNAS can replace my Synology NAS. Therefore I am searching for software for FreeNAS to satisfy my needs. I would appreciate your help with finding the right software and right installation type. The needs aren't very special but I am little overlaoded because of the diverse installation methods of software and confused about selecting the right software. My Hardware is a HPE Microserver Gen10.

Requirements about the choice:
  • easy to administer
  • easy to backup and restore
  • stable
  • not internet connection required, only in house sync etc.
  • should work "out of the box" without lots of configuration outside FreeNAS GUI - so plugins are best choice?!
OK, here are my current needs regarding services with my choice for specific software. Could you please recommend me some software?
  • Photo Gallery for clients: Plex
  • Video streaming for clients: streaming of my home made videos
  • Music Server / DLNA: PLex
  • Calendar, Contacts Sync with clients: Owncloud or even Baikal?
  • Cloud / File Sync option for files with clients: Owncloud
  • Wiki Software: ?
  • Encrypted Backup of FreeNAS with Data on USB HDD
Thanks a lot!

You should not decide what hardware you are using before you determine the software.
The hardware is determined by the software.
Have you already purchased the microserver?

Yes I did. I think this hardware should be fine for my requirements. As told I am currently testing, maybe after the test it will look different and yes maybe also with other hardware
