I recently installed a larger capacity UPS on my system and though I understand it may not be necessary, I hooked it up via USB to my FreeNas server. I selected the proper port and installed what I thought to be the correct driver and now have the following messages appearing on my nightly security run:

Most common is this and it does not appear every night:

freenas.local kernel log messages:
ugen0.2: <CPS> at usbus0 (disconnected)
ugen0.2: <CPS> at usbus0
ugen0.2: <CPS> at usbus0 (disconnected)
ugen0.2: <CPS> at usbus0

This is the one that came up last night for the first time:

freenas.local kernel log messages:
ugen0.2: <CPS> at usbus0 (disconnected)
usb_alloc_device: set address 2 failed (USB_ERR_IOERROR, ignored)
usbd_setup_device_desc: getting device descriptor at addr 2 failed, USB_ERR_IOERROR
ugen0.2: <CPS> at usbus0
uhub_explore: illegal enable change, port 1
ugen0.2: <CPS> at usbus0 (disconnected)
ugen0.2: <CPS> at usbus0
ugen0.2: <CPS> at usbus0 (disconnected)
ugen0.2: <CPS> at usbus0

This might be solved by just changing the USB port (on the mobo) that you have the UPS
plugged into.
It would be helpful to know:
  • mobo model
  • UPS model
  • UPS Service config settings

Your model is not listed as approved at the Network UPS Tools website.
This does not mean your model will not work (it prob. will), but your going to have
to find which driver will work for you by trial and error.
Not sure how to take a pic of my config
Just go to the FreeNAS GUI and post the settings for >Sevices >UPS >click the wrench icon
and post what you have for the first seven settings, OR use your print screen button on your keyboard
(if you're using windows) and paste the image in microsoft paint. Make whatever alterations to the
picture file and save it to your desktop. Then post it here by using the "upload file" button at
the bottom of the forum window.
Here's mine
ups-settings.jpg
Pay no attention to may settings as my FreeNAS server is configure as a slave.
My USB cable is hooked to my pfSense box as master ;)

Don't reduce your picture resolutions, makes them impossible to read clearly.
If you don't want to post a large image file, choose the Thumbnail
instead of Full Image.
If the picture does not appear as you intended, just edit your post and
play with it until you end up with what you want ;)

I presume you have set a password for the monitoring user, it won't work otherwise. Are you using the default username of 'upsmon', I've never tried it with a different user?

I do have a password, just deleted before posting and I am using the default username.

Would Cyberpower be able to give me a list of their products that use the same driver and is it a Linux driver? Reason I am asking is because they have a software suite based on what OS you are using. They can be found at this link:

Unfortunately, you can't in any straightforward way use Cyberpower's own drivers or software to shutdown FreeNAS. For practical purposes, you are restricted to whatever NUT driver is available. It is not impossible to arrange a script on another machine to shutdown FreeNAS via SSH, and control that as part of the shutdown process on the other machine which is initiated by Cyberpower software connected from that machine to the UPS, but I don't think anyone has published how to do that so you would have to write it for yourself.
