Hi all,

I've done a search and found plenty of people with the same question as me, but no answers - how can I create swap space in FreeNAS 8.0.x?

My zpool came from an 0.7.x server that died. I had set up all disks to use ZFS across the entire disk (ie no swap space), but now I find FreeNAS running out of RAM (4gb) and unable to add any more RAM due to Kernel Panic Trap 9 errors (could be dodgy RAM, will be returning it tomorrow) and various services failing / PIDs being killed off as my RAM gets soaked up. Hence the need for swap space...

I have another disk in there, separate from my zpool, which I can put the swap space on...but how can I create the swap space, and how can I tell FreeNAS where it is?

Cheers!

What do you have? A raidz1?

I think you could just take one of the disks in the pool offline, "format" it, and replace the disk again using the GUI.

Or in cli create a GPT label, with 2 partitions, put swap in the first of them and then use the rest for the zfs and replace it...

In FreeNAS 8.x you cannot manage swap partiions separetely...
