I'd tried upgrading plex with the update button on 9.2.8.1. I've now upgraded FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201509022158. But I still can't plex to update, want to do it manually.

Wanted to try something like this:
  1. # jls
  2. # jexec [plex jail ID# returned from jls cmd] tcsh
  3. # cd /usr/pbi/plexmediaserver-amd64/share/
  4. # wget http://downloads.plexapp.com/plex-m...ver-0.9.9.5.411-da1d892-freebsd-amd64.tar.bz2
  5. # tar -xjvf ./PlexMediaServer-0.9.9.5.411-da1d892-freebsd-amd64.tar.bz2
  6. # service plexmediaserver stop
  7. # mv ./plexmediaserver/ ./plexmediaserver.9.8.18.old/
  8. # mv ./PlexMediaServer-0.9.9.5.411-da1d892-freebsd-amd64/ ./plexmediaserver/
  9. # service plexmediaserver start
  10. # rm -f PlexMediaServer-0.9.9.5.411-da1d892-freebsd-amd64.tar.bz2
  11. # exit
But I don't know what the directory structure is for the update: 0.9.12.11.1406

Any assistance is appreciated, just trying to avoid having to download and rebuild from scratch.

There is a script that everyone uses for this. Do a search for Plex update or Plex manual install.

I would suggest not using the plugin and just installing Plex via pkg. This way updates are easier and you can install plexpass version if you wanted.

Was able to download the new package and install it, but it fails to start via gui or command line (gui still shows old version.) Gives no error from command line, just doesn't start. Suggestions?

@wags22 anything in /var/db/plexdata/Plex Media Server/Logs/ in the jail or in /var/log/messages on the freenas host?

so for some reason plex itself isn't starting.

can you show the output of 'ps aux'
to confirm are you trying to solve this with pkg/ports? if you want to go that route it's best not to do it in the same plugin jail.

A sample from /var/log/messages on the host. epair2b is the plex interface. Didn't see anything worthwhile in the jail log files.

I originally tried using the update button under plugins, when that failed I tried using pkg.
At this point I'm sticking a fork in this thread. I followed this guide last night: https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...all-plex-in-a-freenas-9-3-jail-updated.19412/

Only have 2 issues at this point, at least one is not forum related. 1) Plex says there is an update available, but when I run the pkg update command for Plex it returns that it is latest version. 2) I have dns setup to access my freenas remotely. I can reach other apps I'm running, but I can't reach Plex. I get a 401 unauthorized error each time I try and not sure if it is coming from Plex or my router.

great. yeah the plugin+pkg would likely not work together.

as for the 'update available' that's a known issue for plex on freebsd and it's up to the plex guys to fix it.
