Hi,

after updating from 11.0-U4 to 11.1 I get following error message:

Code:
Trying to mount root from zfs:freenas-boot/ROOT/11.1-RELEASE []...
Mounting from zfs:freenas-boot/ROOT/11.1-RELEASE failed with error 2
Loader variables:
vfs.root.mountfrom=zfs:freenas-boot/ROOT/11.1-RELEASE

I get a mountroot prompt to specify the root filesystem manually, but I don't know how to specify my USB-Stick

11.0-U4 still boots without problems from the same USB-Stick.

Does anyone has an idea?

BR

Christian

Boot into the 11.0-U4 and delete the 11.1 boot environment and re-attempt the upgrade.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that: I already did this procedure before starting this thread.
Deletion and re-upgrade results in exactly the same behavior...

In that case, it may be time to replace your boot media. When a boot drive fails to "boot", then this is a good indicator that it requires replacement.

The suggested media is a 16GB Sandisk Ultra Fit, which can be had on Amazon for less than $15.

Today I got a new USB-Stick and made a clean install of Freenas 11.1. Now the problem looks a little bit different, but I think it still has something to do with the mount process ("current process = 205 (mount)"):

New ideas anyone?

After reading this thread, I removed my unused SSD.
Now, FreeNAS 11.1 booted without any issues.

What was on the unused SSD?

Can't remember in detail. Some time ago I installed a FreeNAS 10 or 11 on it. But if i try to boot from this ssd, it says something like "this is a FreeNAS data partition".
