I have a Mikrotik RB5009 configured as a DHCP and DNS server, and my TrueNAS Core box is set to a static IP address in the router. The DHCP server advertises the gateway's IP address (10.0.0.0) as the DNS server, and this works fine on my Windows notebook, and I can connect to the Internet just fine:

However, the exact same settings fail on my TrueNAS Core server, and I can't connect to the internet to update/NTP/etc:

I am at my wits' end. I have read several related threads on DNS and no internet connectivity, and all of them appear to be slightly different. I am not sure if there's a firewall on my router that's blocking things. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

gateway's IP address (10.0.0.0)
That isn't a valid IP address for a device; it's an address for the entire network--and why you're using an entire class A network is a mystery. Change the IP to 10.0.0.1 and it will likely work.

Fair enough, but out of curiosity, why did this work on Windows, then? For the record, changing the gateway and DNS server addresses to 10.0.0.1 worked great; thank you.

I'm lazy to type 192.XXX.XXX.XXX; 10.0.0.X is a lot less typing

Windows networking is broken in many ways; it's no surprise this would be one of them.

10.0.0.0/24 would make a bit more sense, I'd think. I don't suppose it's a big deal, but surely you don't need 16M hosts on your LAN.
