System crashes during upload

Hi,
I'm new with freeNAS so I would need a little help.
As I wrote in the title the system crashes and restarts after I start a smaller or bigger upload. It seems that it doesn't depends on the size of the file, also not on the count. After a few minutes of uploading to the server the whole system is gone.

I only installed a plex server as a plugin and that's it for the moment.

I read a lot about RAM and the swap memory. It it possible that I've to put more RAM into the machine?

I enabled "autotune" but it didn't helped. After that I enabled "Debug Kernel".

Here are the system specifications:

OS Version:
FreeNAS-11.2-U5
(Build Date: Jun 24, 2019 18:41)

Processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz (8 cores)

Memory:
8 GiB

HostName:
freenas.local

Uptime:
10:12PM up 27 mins, 0 users

What's the next step to analyze what's going on with the system? How can I get more informations about the issue?

Per forum rules, please post complete hardware specifications. It is not possible to comment on your problem without having more information.

Is there a way to read out all the hardware specifications or should I simply write in per hand what I've got in the machine?

The easiest way to present your system specs is to put it in your signature. That way, you don't have to remember every time you post a question. Also, you do realize that this is an old gaming board and many of its features will not be supported by FreeBSD (the underlying OS for FreeNAS.) For sake of stability, I would go into the bios and disable features that are not being used by FreeNAS. I would also disable FreeNAS Autotune and Debug Kernel. You don't need them.

Now on to your problem:
8Gb RAM should be enough for your configuration. However, the network controller on that board is not on the FreeBSD compatibility list - so that could be your problem. I would pick up an Intel-based network card and then disable the internal network controller. Network cards are not expensive, just make sure it uses an Intel chipset.

I searched a little and found this one:

Amazon Network Card

I checked it with the hardware list but wasn't able to find it there... I'm not sure about the chipset... Would this card be ok or do you perhaps have a recommendation for me? I don't want to buy the wrong card...

It should work according to Intel's support page, and it gets good reviews.

Hi!

Ok, I got the new network card and installed it in the pc.

The only thing is now, that I didn't found a way to change the network adapter.

What have I to do to "activate" the new network adapter? Is there something to install or something else to do to get the new hardware into the system? I'm searching for a few days but no chance...

I have power on the card, also the communication led is flickering, I've got communication lights on the switch but no new MAC adress on the dhcp.

What can I do? How should I go on?

Best regards,

William

PS.: I also tried both PCI Express Ports... Same result

Ok, I fixed it!

I added the new NIC and had some troubles with my own network configuration.

Now it works. Now I will test the hell out of it!

Ok, I've a last issue... How can I change the "jail plugins" - NICs to the correct network card now?

Everything else is working without any issues.

Ok, I think everything works now correctly! Thanks a lot for your help! I think we can close this "issue".

The network card works correctly. I copied arround 50gb and the server iss still up and running! That's awesome!

Hello again,

it took me some time to do all tests and now I'm back with a few results.

I changed the network card, the system is still crashing when I perform big uploads to the server but now it also crashes when I try to download big data files. From one second to another the NAS is completely unreachable.

The only message I cound find in /var/log/messages is

Code:
Oct 1 22:46:50 freenas collectd[3450]: rrdcached plugin: Failed to connect to RRDCacheD at unix:/var/run/rrdcached.sock: Unable to connect to rrdcached: Connection refused (status=61)

What should I check to find the issues?

Hi,

I installed freenas on my old pc and tried to copy a few things on the system, like videos and pictures from our holidays. Pictures and small data isn't an issue, big uploads (1gb+) and downloads are causing a very strange behavior: suddenly the system is gone, it's not reachable anymore and the whole system is rebooting.

I asked in the hardware section about this issue and somebody told me, that the onboard network card wasn't compatible with freenas. So I bought an intel PCIe network card with a compatible chipset and I hoped that everything should work now.

The issue is still there, I found informations on the system, the only thing I really found was this entry over and over in /var/log/messages

Code:
Oct 2 23:45:48 freenas collectd[3469]: rrdcached plugin: Failed to connect to RRDCacheD at unix:/var/run/rrdcached.sock: Unable to connect to rrdcached: Connection refused (status=61)

I also got this message:

Code:
Pool NAS1POOL state is ONLINE: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data corruption. Applications may be affected.
Tue, 01 Oct 2019 20:49:10 GMT

but I have no idea where I could find out more about it...

Where can I found some infos about the crashes? And how should I go on?

I tried "zpool status -v" and I got the following additional information

Code:

Did you disable the network adapters in your motherboard bios - so that your new add-in network connector is the only one that the system sees? Did you disable all other features in the motherboard bios that are not relevent to a NAS? That would be where I would start. Also, stop your jails until you confirm that the FreeNAS install itself is stable.
