Hello,

Not really a FreeNAS question but I hope it's ok!

I am currently trying to update my BIOS on a X9SCM from 1.0b to 2.2 so I can use an Xeon E3-1220v2.

I have followed these instructions:

https://www.supermicro.com/products/nfo/BIOS_Upgrade_Instruction_E3-1200_V2.pdf

However when I try boot to the DOS USB drive it takes me to the BIOS? I seem to remember when I installed FreeNAS I had to do it via a CD as it would not boot of the USB, maybe a similar issue here?

I am not sure about how to create a DOS bootable CD with all the BIOS update files so I haven't tried that yet.

Any ideas/advice would be greatly appreciated.

FYI:
Supermicro X9SCM
Intel i5-2500 3.30GHz with Stock Cooler
10GB ECC RAM
6x WD 2TB RED
1x Noctua NF-S12A PWM
2x Noctua NF-P12 PWM
Corsiar VS350 PSU
Fractal Design Define Mini Series Micro ATX Case

Thanks,

Mark

When booting from a USB flash drive, my X9SCM board liked to have
the drive in the internal motherboard port only. Try the DOS flash drive
in that port and see if that makes a diff

Thanks for the reply!

That seems to of worked, I am now running BIOS Version 2.2.

The only thing that seems odd now is that on boot it visits the Supermicro Splash Screen twice before booting to FreeNAS? Not a major issue as it's on 24/7.

Mine seems to cycle through several boot screens, including the Supermicro screen twice. I think boot priority settings might affect it--turn off anything you wouldn't use, like booting from the LAN--but, like you, I figure the machine is up 24/7, so it really doesn't matter.

That's typical of AMI BIOSes.
