Hi,

I've gotten smart error on my FreeNAS GUI and the message says like "Device: /dev/ada1, new Self-Test Log error at hour timestamp 30426". Now, I tried to check with smartctl -a /dev/ada1 and the result was as below.

Code:

However, I don't see any errors on zpool volumes as below.

Code:

 state: ONLINE
status: Some supported features are not enabled on the pool. The pool can
still be used, but some features are unavailable.
action: Enable all features using 'zpool upgrade'. Once this is done,
the pool may no longer be accessible by software that does not support
the features. See zpool-features(7) for details.

It would be time to replace the disk? Or It would be better to check with some commands?

Regards,

I second Jailer's motion to replace the offending disk.

Thanks, Jailer.

I need to get more "thoughts" from somebody also...

Regards,
You're disk is failing smart long tests. Not much more to discuss.

Replace that drive as fast as possible. It's dead.

This is the whole point of SMART Tests - to warn you that a drive is going out before any actual data loss is incurred. That drive is shot and if you want much longer you're going to start seeing some issues on your pool (I would suspect that performance is already impacted)

Listen to everyone here - replace that drive ASAP!

The ID200 Multizone value being anything other than zero coupled with the extended test failures is a clear indication that the hard drive is failing. You also failed to provide data such as what make/model the hard drive is and the version of freenas you are running, heck you didn't provide any system information. Also ID1 looks to be a valid count so you have read errors within the drive, knowing the drive make/model could validate this as some drives have meaningless data in thie field. Please follow the forum rules, do not try to limit the data you provide unless you feel the data is sensitive. It's just more difficult to povide a fast accurate answer when we are lacking data. With all of that said, everyone here nailed it, the drive is an obvious failure.

...and if you do feel the data is sensitive, you're probably wrong. Why do people redact serial numbers, anyway? Granted, we don't generally need them to help troubleshoot, but I'm having trouble understanding why anyone cares if I see them.

Well, I don't know either. But I redacted some yesterday in a View Discs screenshot that I knew would be public - because I have seen it done so many times here that I had concluded that it must be "well established" that HDD serial numbers were capable of use with negative outcome. Without giving it much thought I believe I assumed that it was likely something to do with fraudulent warranty returns or the like. Foolish?

In this case they think someone can use it to trade in a hard drive under warranty. If the drive manufacturers were that stupid then they wouldn't be able to operate a company. I like seeing the serial number because sometimes I will check to see if the drive is under warranty for the user and tell them to ship it.

In other cases you may have an email address or password embeded in say a script so I kind of was thinking that when I posted my comment above. If I see a posting with sensitive info like that, I will go edit the post to have it removed just to ensure nothing bad happens. I'm pretty sensitive to identity theft, been there and done that, never want to do it again. When I was in the Navy we actually printed our SSNs on our paper checks. PII was not very well promoted nor enforced. Sorry, got off topic just a touch.
