Small-ish UPS recommendation?

Hmmm, can of worms opening up before me. More or less following so far. However it looks like FreeNAS is NUT and Smoothwall (www.smoothwall.org = unix firewall) is apcupsd based. I can see reference in the docs that NUT can listen to apcupsd so it maybe looks like put the UPS on the smoothwall firewall.

So far out of my depth but hey, thats where the fun is (so long as I don't break things!)

PS "critically protected" was meant to infer graceful shutdown protected so avoiding file corruption.

Yeah, no, way off on terminology there. "Monitored" or "controlled" or "coordinated" would be much better words to describe the relationship. "Critically" implies that there's separation of loads into critical and noncritical pools.

if anyone wants a cheap BE550G's i have 1 or 2 available. They have been used for around 2-3 years. I can send them out for $25 ($15 + $10 for my time).

OK. I now have a UPS connected and I think working, see below. I think the next step is just to cross fingers and turn off the UPS. Given I'm deliberately putting the system at risk so to speak is there a safe mode I can put FreeNAS in so if it goes wrong damage is less likely or is it this report then go for it with confidence...
