So i have a HP Microserver and i put a 500GB Seagate drive in and FreeNas just to become accustom to it before i go buy more drives.
So i made a dataset and a user, had some permissions issues but got that resolved, so i went about copying 100GB of files to a folder, it then tells me i am 37+GB short but its a clear 500GB drive?

I assume I am mossing something very basic but any assistance is appreciated.

Also one further basic question but my share is showing up as a folder, can i not just have the entire drive appear similar to drives connected to my main machine as with this i can also see drive space left and at present I cannot

There's not much to go on here... How are you sharing the drive 500GB drive (CIFS, NFS, etc.)? Are you playing around with datasets or snapshots at all? What version of FreeNAS are you running? What else can you tell us about your configuration? Screenshots would help of the storage configuration, the sharing configuration, snapshot config and possibly other things as well.
