@Patrick M. Hausen has detailed instruction to using TrueNAS as a switch here.
  • Disable autostart for all jails if you already have some configured and reboot.
  • Disable hardware offloading for all physical interfaces. This is important!
  • Create a bridge interface named "bridge0" with both physical interfaces as members.
  • Test and save.
  • Remove the IP configuration from your physical interface.
  • Put IP configuration on bridge interface instead.
  • Test and save.
  • Reboot for good measure.
  • Re-enable and start jails.
I'd like to do something slightly different: My NAS has two ports, of which only one is used and set to the static IP address at which other equipments expect to reach the server. I rely on a little red sticker to remember where to plug the cable.
Can I safely create a bridge between ix0 and ix1, set the static IP to the bridge and just plug the cable in any port? Can hardware offloading remain enabled in this scenario?

You should always disable hardware offloading when using bridged networking but apart from that your plan is correct. I don't get why people are so concerned about that. It really does not buy you much.
