I'm looking to do a FreeNAS build to replace my current MediaSonic 4 bay raid box.

Before I pull the trigger, I would like some opinions about my potential build.

CPU - i3-4160
MB - SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SLL-F-O uATX
RAM - Crucial 16GB Kit CT2KIT102472BD160B
PSU - Rosewill Photon-550 80+ Gold
Case - Fractal Design Define R4

I have four Seagate ST4000VN000 4TB drives to use.

Thought on anything that needs to be changed?

I wouldn't trust my data to a Rosewill PSU especially when you can get a Seasonic G550 for just a little bit more, but that's just my opinion.

The rest looks fine.

For the ~$15 difference, I'll swap out the Rosewill for the Seasonic. Thanks for the input!

The FreeNas build will just be holding media and act as a samba or nfs share. I would say on average only 4-5 users, and max ~10.

Currently I have a separate server that runs plex. A mediasonic raid box is hooked up right now via USB 3.0. I find that it bottlenecks pretty badly when there is a file transfer going on.

Example. 1-2 ppl streaming off the plex server, I do a copy (read or write) over the network via samba share. The speed is great (~110mb/s), but the plex users get kicked off/timed out within 15 seconds. I can't browse or do anything else on the raid box/samba share (switching folders is painful) until the transfer is done.

Just so you know, if those hard drives hold data, you'll have to move the data off them so they can be reformatted for FreeNAS (or else you'll lose the data).

Would the Fractal Design Node 304 be bad with the four 7200RPM drives?
The motherboard you have selected will not fit in that case. That case is mini ITX only.
